The Reeve Foundation mourns the loss of David R. Gater, Jr., M.D., Ph.D., M.S., Chair of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and President of the Academy of SCI Professionals. Dr. Gater’s leadership of the SCI field as an exceptional and deeply caring physician-scientist leaves an enduring impact on the spinal cord-injured community.

From his scientific leadership and teaching new generations of SCI professionals, to his steadfast support for the quality of life for all those impacted by SCI, we are grateful.

Our community is saddened at the loss of David R. Gater, Jr., M.D., Ph.D., M.S. He was a sincere contributor to the betterment of all people. I had the opportunity to interview him which was stimulating conversation with personality. Dr. Gator's legacy will continue through his outstanding work, those of us he educated, and his love for his family.
