Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation's First Regional Advocacy Training in Shippensburg, PA
On June 15, the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation hosted its inaugural Regional Advocacy Training at the Coy Public Library in Shippensburg, PA. This event brought together local community advocates to learn about the invaluable services and resources offered by the National Paralysis Resource Center (NPRC). The training fostered a welcoming atmosphere and provided a platform for participants to engage with Reeve Foundation staff and members of the local community. Mayor Kathy Coy was in attendance and spoke about disability policy in the Shippensburg community.
The Regional Advocacy Training provided attendees an understanding of the Reeve Foundation's grassroots advocacy programs, how to become an online Advocate for Change and information about the Regional Champions program. Participants gained knowledge on how to actively engage in the legislative process, becoming a more effective self-advocate for themselves and on behalf of the paralysis community when communicating with their policymakers.
This event would not have been possible without the dedication and instrumental assistance of a local Regional Champion and Shippensburg resident, Jamie Clendening. Jamie is a passionate advocate who runs her own blog, "I Can and I Wheel." Her blog serves as a vehicle to foster communication, encouragement, and advocacy within the paralysis community. Jamie's commitment to building a supportive community aligns perfectly with the Reeve Foundation's mission.
