The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation Paralysis Resource Center (PRC) is pleased to announce it will be hosting “Wheelchair Barbie Goes to the Gynecologist,” a free webinar presented by Cody Unser, MPH, on April 17.This webinar is the first event in the Paralysis Resource Center’s new Women’s Health Series which focuses on the health and well-being of women living with paralysis.
The reproductive and sexual health of women living with paralysis is often overlooked by society, medical professionals and women themselves. This webinar seeks to empower women with perspective and information on their reproductive and sexual health. The presentation will explore a number of topics including the importance of reproductive and sexual health for women with paralysis, secondary conditions that impact reproductive health, sexuality for women with paralysis, barriers to quality health care and their consequences, and strategies for locating accessible health care services.Cody will also share her own experiences with the health care system as a woman living with paralysis.
Cody Unser is a leading advocate for people living with disabilities.Passionate about the health care of women with disabilities, including their reproductive and sexual health, Cody has delivered presentations on the issues they face at the national conference of the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology and at OB/GYN grand rounds at medical facilities across the country. She also writes as a patient advocate for US News and World Report about everything she experiences relating to having a disability and navigating the world. Cody received her Master in Public Health with an emphasis in Health Policy at the George Washington University in Washington, DC.
After becoming paralyzed at 12 years old due to transverse myelitis, Cody along with her mother Shelley founded The Cody Unser First Step Foundation to raise awareness, encourage medical collaboration and improve the quality of life for those impacted by transverse myelitis.
