The right equipment can make a critical difference in the lives of people with paralysis, not only boosting physical health but increasing independence.

The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation’s Adaptive Accessories for People Living with Paralysis, a video series available on Reeve’s YouTube channel, is designed to help community members find products that match individual needs and support overall well-being.

The videos showcase a range of seat cushions, personal lifts and shower chairs, accessories used every day by millions of people. The design, function, weight, portability, and safety features of each product are highlighted alongside a general overview of each category,

Some questions viewers might consider when assessing individual needs include: Will I need a portable product? Do I need a lightweight option to prevent caregiver injury? Does this product feature design options that can help manage my secondary conditions (e.g., a shower chair that tilts for those with limited core strength or spasticity)?

The series was directed by Jenni Gold, co-founder of Gold Pictures and director of “CinemAbility: The Art of Inclusion.” Gold, who has lived with muscular dystrophy since she was a child, also directed Reeve’s 2022 Wheelchair Comparison Series
